Wearable Art Group Visits KQG

Last night at our May meeting we had a visit from the Wearable Art Group Ottawa.  This is a group of woman who meet regularly to share ideas, have Challenges and generally explore the wonderful world of wearable art.   Their fashion show is an exciting view of creations from some very creative minds.   Beautiful jackets, skirts, coats, hats and bags,  in the most vibrant colors featuring every sewing technique and style since we started wearing clothes!   It was an extraordinary show, that left us amazed and awe struck.  Here's a few pictures,  I was too enthralled to take notes about the outfits,  now I wish that I had.

Ottawa Valley Quilt Guild SHOW

The annual Ottawa Valley Quilt Guild show is being held this weekend at the RA Centre on Riverside Drive in Ottawa.   Once again the OVQG has shown that they have a productive, enthusiastic membership that enjoy showing their work.   A great venue, lots of quilts representing every style of quilting being done by women today.
Here's a few pictures of items I liked.  OH< and of course, wonderful shopping opportunities!!

Couldn't pass up this photo op!

This is done using CHEESE CLOTH!!

Local teacher Elaine Quale teaches a class in this technique.  I love it!

A `modern quilt`

This is a combination of Kaffe Fassett fabrics, and 1930`s reproduction fabric.  Lovely results!

An interesting wall hanging called `Birds, Berries and Branches

`
This is Kaffe Fassett fabric and pattern.

A great array of vendors, from all along the Ottawa Valley.

Days for Girls -- Training Day

Today a group of women from the Kemptville Quilters Guild got together at the Pentecostal Church outside Kemptville to have a training day for the Days for Girls Program.

This program creates and delivers feminine hygiene kits for young girls in developing countries.  These kits allow the girls to carry on going to school while they have their monthly menstruation period.  The goal of the program is to get a kit to every girl in the world who needs one by the year 2022.

This summer we have committed to completing 50 kits so that they can be taken to an orphanage in Haiti that is sponsored by a Quebec organisation.

We have been very fortunate that all the materials needed to complete these 50 kits have come from the women who are doing the sewing.  Money, fabric, thread, plastic bags etc. were generously given so that we can make up the 50 kits.

If you want to join in, just mention your interest to Pat Kiteley or Julia Older.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Quilting fabric, bright and patterned,  Polyester thread,  Flannel that is dark with a pattern on it and of course, MONEY!   To learn more about the project go to daysforgirls.org.

Here's a few pictures of the women working, and soon we'll have pictures of the finished kits!!

Let`s set up the room first, Then we`ll get sewing!

Make sure your machine is ready to go.

Then get a little instruction on how to start the project.

Set to work, and check it twice!

Perhaps a little consultation on this one point!

And back to work to finish this part.

Don`t forget to keep track of the pieces.

And pay attention to the details!

Many thanks to Julia Older, Theresa McCaig,  Sheila Gibson, Judy Black, Pat Reid,  Joelle Flageole,
Elaine MacNaughton,  Earla Blair, and Jean Drozda for attending and going agreeing to help sew for the next while.
Keep checking the BLOG to see how the project is coming along.
